October 2nd

2005 –  Mark Buonomo (Seymour 29) made it two straight Seekonk DAV triumphs. Taking the lead late, he finished ahead of Ben Seitz (Valeri 17), Joey Payne (Angelillo 45), Adam Cantor (Cantor 7ny) and Shane Hammond (Glockner (37g) in the 25 lapper.

1971 – Jerry Wall, in the revolutionary Yellow jacket #5,  posted his seventh win of the season in the season finale at Thompson’s World Series. Sonny Sanders (Scravani) was second followed by Roger Bailey (Germano) and Len Thrall (Secondo 32). Dave Humphrey’s fifth was enough to capture the championships for himself and car owner John McCarthy.  Wall wound up second in both point races.

1970 – The season came to a most unusual ending when Dave Humphrey drove Mike Scrivani’s 21 to victory at Thompson’s World Series, earning a share of the driving championship with Lou Fray. It remains the only season NEMA had a tie atop the drivers’ standings. Johnny Mann was third and Ronnie Evans fourth. Fray’s sixth gave John McCarthy his first owner’s title. Humphrey had six wins in ’70 with four different owners: three with Scrivani, one each with Bob Pascale, Jerry Connors and Blackie Lamacchia.  .

2003 – Two days after his 18th birthday, Bobby Santos III (Santos 98s) started 16th, rushed to the front and was almost half-lap ahead at the finish in a 25-lapper at Waterford. Pete Pernesiglio (Pernesiglio 50) was second and Sean Caisse (Caisse 10c) third.

2013 – Bethany Stoehr, 18, drove the family Stoehr 5b to victory at Waterford, joining Erica Santos on the list of female winners. Leading since lap three, she survived a couple of late restart challenges from her uncle Russ Stoehr (Dumo’s Desire 45).  John Zych (Zych 9) was third, Randy Cabral (Bertrand 47) fourth and Todd Bertrand (Bertrand 39) fifth.

1973 – Dave Humphrey’s win at Albany-Saratoga secured the owner’s championship for John McCarthy, his third in four years, while Butch Walsh’s second in the Scrivani #21 was enough to clinch the driving crown by 17 points.  Jerry Wall (Wall 5) was third.

1979 – Lenny Boyd (Cali 7) ended the season with a victory in an ARDC/NEMA in a 100 lapper at Thompson. Billy Hughes (Sheehan 23) and Bob Cicconi (Scrivani) were second and third. It was the second straight 100 lap win for Boyd who prevailed two weeks prior at Seekonk. Cicconi was second at Seekonk while Buddy Peckham (Prew 18) came from the 27th starting spot to finish third.
