March 28th
2001...The second career victory for Randy Cabral came at Thompson Speedway’s Icebreaker and it featured a 15-lap battle with veteran Bobby Seymour that established the young Cabral. Driving the family-owned #35, Cabral didn’t get away from Seymour until only five laps remained. Keith Botelho, Rudy Boetticher (Boetticher 46) and Russ Stoehr (Angelillo 45) were third through fifth. |
March 31st
1979...Leigh Earnshaw, in the Scrivani 20, won the 30 lapper at Thompson’s Icebreaker. Butch Walsh (Bien 35), Hank Rogers Jr. (Kaelin 75), Billy Hughes (Sheehan 23), Jim Gates (All American 99) and Doug Cleveland (O’Brien 16) followed. Earnshaw is one of well over a dozen drivers who have won NEMA features in Scrivani cars, a list that continues to grow with Mike Scrivani Jr.’s participation in the NEMA Lites program. |
Left: The winner of 46 races with ARDC, Leigh Earnshaw won some 70 Midget races overall in what amounted to a 15-year career. He was unquestionably one of Midget racing’s biggest stars of the 1970s and 1980s.

April 1st
2012...Starting fourth, John Zych Jr. took the lead on lap four and survived a mid-race restart challenge from Randy Cabral before claiming his first NEMA win at Waterford’s Blastoff. The Zych/Cabral competition is now the face of NEMA. Russ Stoehr (Dumo’s Desire 45) was third, Joey Payne Jr. (Breault 44) fourth and Anthony Marvuglio (Bourdeau 38) fifth. |
April 2nd
1978...A great day for the Scrivani and the Coy families. Johnny Coy Sr. (Scrivani #20) bested Johnny Jr. (Scrivani #21) at Thompson’s Icebreaker. Hank Rogers Jr. (Kaelin Steel #75), George Ferguson Jr. (Ferguson #29) and Johnny Evans (Nogueira #5) completed the top five. It is one of several battles in NEMA history featuring Scrivani cars. Mike Scrivani Jr. rates Johnny Coy Sr. as the best among the many to drive Scrivani cars. |
Left: Johnny Coy, Sr. raced Stock cars, Sprint Cars, 3/4 Midgets, Midgets, and Indy Cars in his vast racing career. He was a 9-time driving champion and began a family racing legacy that continues today.
