June 26th
1987...Lee hosted the first of two NEMA/USAC races and no one was close to Drew Fornoro and the Angelillo 45 in the crash-filled 25 lapper. Rick Volger was one of the victims. Lee Smith (Boissoneau 27), second to Fornoro at Lee, prevailed, two nights later at Hudson. Smith, who battled legend Mel Kenyon en route to victory, bested Mike Osite (Nogueira 10) and Fornoro. |
June 27th
1999...Ending a long victory draught, for himself and his dad “Mazda Pete,” Pete Pernesiglio picked up his first win at Star. It was a very popular win, the Pernesiglio family having deep roots in NEMA both as competitors and in service rolls. Young Pete was in good company on the podium with Drew Fornoro (Angelillo 45) and Russ Stoehr (Stoehr 26). |
June 28th
1991...Championship bound Joey Coy (Kibbe 14) passed Bobby Seymour (Seymour 29)late to win the 25 lapper at Lee. Mike Seymour (Tapley 8) was third and Jeff Horn (Hayes 47) fourth. Coy chased Bobby Seymour for several laps before making the winning pass. |
June 30th
1963...The 10th and final NEMA win for Billy Randall came in the Sheehan Offy at Quebec Modern in Quebec City. Joe Csiki and George Monson were second and third. Bay Stater Randall died less than a month later from injuries suffered in an ARDC race at Lime Rock. Randall won for both Ed Stone and Mike Sheehan in NEMA. |
July 1st
1972...Butch Walsh (Connors #58) beat back a late restart challenge from Jerry Wall (Wall 5) to post his first NEMA feature at Wiscasset. Walt Gale (Elbee 24) was third, Lou Fray (Young 7-11) fourth and Dave Humphrey (McCarthy 47) fifth. Walsh got more 15 wins before leaving NEMA in 1986. |
July 2nd
2015...Todd Bertrand bested Bertrand Motorsports teammate Randy Cabral on a restart with six laps left and went on to win the Boston Louie Memorial at Seekonk. John Zych (Zych 9), Avery Stoehr (Stoehr 15a) and Jeff Abold (Seymour 29) completed the top five. |
