June 26th

1987...Lee hosted the first of two NEMA/USAC races and no one was close to Drew Fornoro and the Angelillo 45 in the crash-filled 25 lapper. Rick Volger was one of the victims. Lee Smith (Boissoneau 27), second to Fornoro at Lee, prevailed, two nights later at Hudson. Smith, who battled legend Mel Kenyon en route to victory, bested Mike Osite (Nogueira 10) and Fornoro.

1999...Ending a long victory draught, for himself and his dad “Mazda Pete,” Pete Pernesiglio picked up his first win at Star. It was a very popular win, the Pernesiglio family having deep roots in NEMA both as competitors and in service rolls. Young Pete was in good company on the podium with Drew Fornoro (Angelillo 45) and Russ Stoehr (Stoehr 26).
